In the recent years, Artificial Intelligence is increasingly becoming a part of our daily lives, whether we are reading mails, browsing through social media or driving our car. But only recently, with the development of generative models, AI is entering the creativity domain, with new applications in architecture, art and design.

As part of INEDIT project, AIMEN is exploring the use of AI applied to the generation of furniture designs. With the use of generative algorithms trained with a large number of chairs, the AI is capable of generating and endless number of designs, combining characteristics and different styles in innovative ways.

This creativity-boosting tool would empower non-techie users to design their own furniture, or provide professional designers with an endless source of inspiration.

While these free-form designs are incompatible with traditional means of manufacturing, they can be easily manufactured with 3D printing technologies. In addition, new wood-based 3D printing filaments allow the confection of these designs with a finishing that looks, feels and smells as real wood.

Taking advantage of these technologies and more, INEDIT aims at the creation an open innovation European “Do It Together” ecosystem for furniture, where users can imagine and create their own furniture regardless of their technical knowledge.
